KIRKWOOD, MISSOURI, MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO INTERSTATE TRANSPORTATION OF STOLEN PROPERTY & DRUG CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Robert Williams pleaded guilty today to interstate transportation of stolen property and the possession with intent to distribute approximately 190 kilograms (approximately 418 pounds) of marijuana at the East St. Louis nightclub “Club TV One,” Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.

Williams was investigated originally for stripping the fixtures and commercial equipment from another nightclub he operated in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008.  When the United States Secret Service executed a search warrant looking for that equipment in East St. Louis in March, they found the stolen equipment, as well as a large stash of marijuana in the offices of the East St. Louis club.  In addition to the stolen property and drug charges, Williams faces the revocation of his federal supervised release for a 2005 fraud case.  He was arrested at the time of the March search and has been in custody ever since.

"This case is a fine example of cooperation among a number of government agencies," said Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap.  "Because of the support of our colleagues in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Illinois and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Secret Service agents were able to follow this case where the evidence took them, and a serious case became even more so when a large drug stash was discovered."

ROBERT WILLIAMS, of Kirkwood, pleaded guilty today to interstate transportation of stolen property and the possession with intent to distribute approximately 190 kilograms (approximately 418 pounds) of marijuana.  Williams appeared before the Honorable Charles A. Shaw, who set his sentencing date for January 21, 2010.   He faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.

Reap commended the work performed on the case by the United States Secret Service, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and Assistant Untied States Attorney Tom Albus, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
