CUBA, MISSOURI, MAN INDICTED ON SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUD CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Oswaldo Campos was indicted on federal social security fraud charges, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.

OSWALDO CAMPOS, Cuba, Missouri, was indicted by a federal grand jury last week on three felony counts of social security fraud and two felony counts of using false identification.  He appeared today in federal court in St. Louis.

The indictment alleges that on three occasions between October  2007 and May 2009, Campos used a false social security number to obtain loans in Crawford County; and on two occasions in August 2007, used a counterfeit social security card to apply for employment in Phelps County.  Campos never received a social security number since he entered the United States illegally.

If convicted, each count of the indictment carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.

Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Social Security Administration and Assistant United States Attorney Tracy L. Berry, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
