FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL FIREARMS CHARGE

St. Louis, MO: Donald Sargent was sentenced to 36 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.

DONALD SARGENT, Villa Ridge, Missouri, pleaded guilty in July involving his possession of a Remington 12 gauge, pump-action shotgun in Franklin County on July 24, 2007.  Due to his previous criminal history, he is forbidden by law to own or possess firearms.  He appeared today in St. Louis for sentencing before United States District Judge Henry Autrey.

This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms.

Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Franklin County Narcotics Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Judge, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
