DENT COUNTY MAN INDICTED ON FEDERAL DRUG DISTRIBUTION CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Gregory Lee Stacy was indicted on drug charges, which resulted in the death of a Dent County man, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.

According to the indictment, between February 22 and 23, 2009, in Dent County, Gregory Lee Stacy distributed methadone to Brian Firestine.  Brian Firestine died on February 23, 2009, from ingesting the methadone that Stacy provided to him.

GREGORY LEE STACY, Salem, Missouri, was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 17, 2009, on one felony count of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death.  He is expected to appear in federal court this week in St. Louis.

If convicted, this charge carries a penalty range of 20 years to life in prison and/or a fine up to $4,000,000.

Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Dent County Sheriff’s Department, the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the South Central Missouri Drug Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Bert, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
