Notice to Victims
March 17, 2008
The United States District Court has notified our office that they are ready to begin mailing the restitution checks. Calculations have been made and it has been determined that the checks will be 6% of your total loss. Due to the large number of checks, this process will take several weeks. If, after May 31, 2008, you have not received your check, you will need to contact the U.S. District Court at (816) 512-5000, and ask to speak with the Finance Department. Inquiries about the status of your check will not be responded to until after that date.
If you have an address change, please call the VNS Call Center at 1-866-365-4968 or visit their website at www. Notify.usdoj.gov. It is not necessary to contact the U.S. Attorney’s Office directly. You will also need to notify the U.S. District Court in writing. Your correspondence should reference the court’s case number, 02-00114-01/04-CR-W-NKL, and be sent to: U.S. District Court Finance Administrator 400 E. 9th St., Room 2710 Kansas City, MO 64106
Notice to Victims
March 15, 2007
U.S. District Court Judge Nanette K. Laughrey has approved the final victim list and ordered that approximately 2,300 victims be provided restitution on a pro rata basis. The Clerks Office will divide the total amount of restitution funds available (approximately $930,000) by the total amount of net losses reported on the final victim list. The resulting percentage shall be multiplied with each verified claim to determine the amount of restitution the Clerk's Office shall pay to that victim.
The Clerks Office is responsible for the enormous task of distributing the victim restitution checks. The role of the U.S. Attorney’s Office is complete at this time, except for monitoring restitution payments made by the defendants.
It is important to keep any address or name change updated within the Victim Notification System. This can be done by calling the VNS toll free, (866) 365-4968, or online at www.notify.usdoj.gov.
We have asked the Court's financial clerk to enclose a note with the restitution check so the victims will know that it is restitution from the Miracle Cars case.
We appreciate you patience.
