KANSAS MAN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTING
TO ENGAGE IN SEX WITH A MINOR
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that an Overland Park, Kan. man was sentenced in federal court today for using the Internet in an effort to engage in illicit sexual activity with a minor.
Aaron M. Eddy, 45, of Overland Park, Kan., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright this morning to five years in federal prison without parole.
On Aug. 8, 2006, Eddy pleaded guilty to using the Internet to attempt to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity. Eddy encountered a person in a Yahoo! chat room whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl and sent her an instant message on Feb. 10, 2004. In reality, Schlozman said, that person was an undercover officer from the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. Eddy brought up the subject of sex and suggested meeting “Lisa” at her apartment in order to engage in illegal sexual activity. Eddy made arrangements to meet “Lisa” and traveled on Feb. 10, 2004, to the designated meeting place in Kansas City, Mo., where he was arrested.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Katharine Fincham. It was investigated by the Platte County, Mo., Sheriff's Department and the Overland Park, Kan., Police Department.
