FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JEFFERSON CITY MAN SENTENCED
FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Jefferson City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm that was fired during an altercation outside Mike’s Corner Pocket.
Nathan Allen Huff, 23, of Jefferson City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey this morning to three years and one month in federal prison without parole.
On Aug. 29, 2006, Huff pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Huff was arrested by police officers following a high-speed vehicle pursuit on March 31, 2006. During the car chase, Huff threw a loaded Hi-Point 9 mm pistol, which was later determined to be stolen, out the passenger window of the car. Huff had brandished the pistol earlier that day during a confrontation with another person at Mike’s Corner Pocket.
Under federal law, Schlozman explained, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Huff has two 2002 criminal felony convictions for forgery in Morgan County, Mo., and Miller County, Mo.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lawrence E. Miller. It was investigated by the Jefferson City, Mo., Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
