JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Columbia, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm.
Tracy Allan Lennex, 39, of Columbia, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey this morning to seven years and six months in federal prison without parole.
On Feb. 22, 2007, Lennex pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Lennex admitted that he was in possession of a loaded Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun on Feb. 24, 2006, in Boone County, Mo. Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Lennex has 2001 criminal felony convictions for burning or exploding and for distribution of marijuana, both in Cooper County, Mo.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the Boone County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
