PROJECT CEASEFIRE
LEE’S SUMMIT MAN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Lee’s Summit, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm. Today’s sentencing is the result of Project Ceasefire, the district’s ongoing anti-crime initiative.
Aaron T. McRee, 36, of Lee’s Summit, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan this morning to four years and nine months in federal prison without parole.
On Sept. 29, 2006, McRee pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. McRee, who has a previous felony conviction, admitted that he was in possession of an American Derringer 9 mm derringer on Jan. 28, 2006. McRee was arrested on that day when police officers responded to a report of a domestic assault at his residence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rudolph R. Rhodes, IV. It was investigated by the Lee’s Summit, Mo., Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Project Ceasefire
Project Ceasefire, launched in October 1999, is a cooperative initiative by federal and local law enforcement and the Kansas City Crime Commission that targets for federal prosecution persons who unlawfully use or possess firearms.
