FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TWO MEN CHARGED IN CARJACKING
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that two men were charged in federal court today with carjacking.
Rickey R. Norton, Jr., 19, and Jeffrey S. Clark, 18, addresses unknown, were charged with carjacking in a federal criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.
According to an affidavit presented in support of the criminal complaint, Norton and Clark, along with an unidentified juvenile, approached their victim late Thursday night when he was walking to his car in the area of Westport and Penn. They forced him at knife point into his vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, and drove to five different ATMs at various locations in Kansas City area, the affidavit says. They allegedly attempted to withdraw money from the victim’s account while they threatened to injure and kill him. One of the carjackers stabbed the victim in the leg with a knife, the affidavit says.
After the carjackers were able to withdraw $200 from one of the ATMs, the affidavit says, the victim escaped on foot and was able to flag down police officers shortly after 12:30 a.m. today. Norton and Clark left in the victim’s vehicle, which was later located by a police helicopter. Norton, Clark and the juvenile fled on foot but were apprehended a short time later.
Schlozman cautioned that the charge contained in this complaint is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Michael Green. It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
