FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COLUMBIA MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Columbia, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for possessing child pornography.
David Oliver Reed, 40, of Columbia, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright this morning to five years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Reed to forfeit to the government a Macintosh Power Book G3, which was used to commit the offense.
On June 15, 2006, Reed pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography that had been downloaded from the Internet. Investigators seized Reed’s computer and other electronic media (including additional hard drives and CDs) in November 2004. A total of 268 images and movie files containing child pornography were recovered from the computer hard drives and other media, including photographs of young girls (approximately 10 years old) and a photograph from a known victim series. Reed admitted that he used Acquisition, a peer-to-peer file sharing program, to obtain child pornography over the Internet.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
