BARNETT MAN INDICTED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Barnett, Mo., man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for illegally possessing a firearm.
Jeffrey Alan Voss, 43, of Barnett, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Jefferson City.
Today’s indictment alleges that Voss was in possession of a loaded Sturm, Ross .38-caliber revolver on Jan. 5, 2007. Under federal law, Schlozman explained, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Voss has two 1993 criminal felony convictions for stealing and for possession of marijuana in Johnson County, Mo.
Schlozman cautioned that the charge contained in this indictment is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the Morgan County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department, the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
