SPRINGFIELD MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORN
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Springfield, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to possessing child pornography.
Michael E. Conner, 31, of Springfield, formerly of Nixa, Mo., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr this afternoon to the charge contained in a Jan. 18, 2006, federal indictment. Conner had pleaded guilty to the same charge on April 4, 2007, but the court set aside that guilty plea during his sentencing hearing on Nov. 20, 2007.
By pleading guilty today, Conner admitted that, from Feb. 12 to Oct. 19, 2005, he was in possession of a computer that contained at least 10 images of child pornography, including pictures of prepubescent children. Conner also agreed to forfeit to the government an Apple Power Mac G4 computer that was used to commit the violation.
Under federal statutes, Conner could be subject to a sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $250,000. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall D. Eggert. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Nixa, Mo., Police Department and the Grandview, Mo., Police Department.
