BRANSON WEST MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO
SAINT ROBERT BANK ROBBERY
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Branson West, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to robbing the Bank of Crocker in Saint Robert, Mo.
Christopher Michael Dwyer, 34, of Branson West, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr this morning to the charge contained in an Oct. 22, 2008, federal indictment.
By pleading guilty today, Dwyer admitted that he stole $4,250 from the Bank of Crocker. Dwyer entered the bank on Sept. 22, 2008, and asked to speak with a manager or loan officer. After being directed to an employee’s office upstairs, Dwyer announced that he was robbing the bank and demanded $4,250. They went downstairs, where the bank officer obtained $4,000 from the bank’s vault and $250 from a teller’s drawer and gave the money to Dwyer, who then left the bank and ran away on foot.
Surveillance photographs taken during the robbery were broadcast on television, and several people responded to identify Dwyer as the robber. Dwyer was arrested the next day.
Under federal statutes, Dwyer is subject to a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $250,000 and an order of restitution. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas C. Bunch. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Saint Robert, Mo., Police Department, the Branson West, Mo., Police Department and the Stone County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department.
