FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KC MAN CHARGED WITH ARMED ROBBERY
OF CREDIT UNION
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that one of the two men believed to be involved in the armed robbery of United Labor Credit Union was charged in federal court today.
Theotis A. Muhammad, 24, of Kansas City, was charged with armed robbery in a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo.
According to an affidavit filed in support of the federal criminal complaint, Muhammad entered United Labor Credit Union, 6320 Manchester Ave., Suite 41-C, Kansas City, at approximately 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Muhammad asked for the key to the men’s restroom then walked in that general direction. A few seconds later, a second person entered the credit union brandishing a handgun, the affidavit says, which he pointed at a teller while demanding bank funds. The teller gave him $2,224 and he fled from the building. Approximately 30 seconds later, Muhammad returned to the office space and returned the restroom key.
According to the affidavit, witnesses observed Muhammad and the unidentified robber walk to the bank together prior to the robbery, then run together toward the Highland Park Apartments, located in the 6400 block of Manchester Avenue, immediately after the robbery. Kansas City police officers detained Muhammad as he was walking out of a ground floor storage area of one of the apartment buildings.
Wood cautioned that the charge contained in this complaint is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Michael Green. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
