MILAN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO PRODUCING

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

FACES 25 YEARS IN PRISON

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Milan, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to producing child pornography.

Carol Danny Phillips, 54, of Milan, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright this morning to the charge contained in a Dec. 4, 2007, federal indictment.

Phillips admitted that sometime in the late summer or early fall of 2003 he took multiple digital photographs of a 12-year-old girl, identified as “Jane Doe,” in sexually explicit poses. Phillips directed Jane Doe to strip and to pose in this fashion, against her wishes, for the purpose of creating the photographs.

Under the terms of today’s plea agreement, Phillips will be sentenced to 25 years in federal prison without parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Katharine Fincham. It was investigated by the Sullivan County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
