KC MAN CHARGED IN BANK ROBBERY AFTER
LEAVING BEHIND HIS DRIVER’S LICENSE
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matt J. Whitworth, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced today that a Kansas City, Mo., man has been charged with robbing First Federal Bank in Kansas City after being identified from his driver’s license photo when he left his wallet at the bank.
Albert Vincent Perkins, 39, of Kansas City, was charged in a federal criminal complaint that was filed at the U.S. District Court in Kansas City on Thursday, May 7, 2009.
According to an affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, Perkins walked into First Federal Bank, 4227 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2009. Perkins, who was carrying a checking brochure and a wallet in his hand, allegedly placed the items on the counter, leaned forward toward the teller, and told her to be quiet and give him all the $100 bills. Perkins handed her a plastic bag, which she filled with $3,129 from her teller drawer.
The teller told law enforcement agents that Perkins, who acted very agitated and nervous, left the bank when she handed him the plastic bag, leaving behind his wallet sitting on the teller’s counter. Both the bank teller and a customer who was in the bank identified the photo on the driver’s license, as well as another photo in the wallet, as being the bank robber.
Whitworth cautioned that the charge contained in this complaint is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David A. Barnes. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
