STRIP CLUB OWNER CHARGED WITH
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that the owner of a strip club in Sunrise Beach, Mo., was charged in federal court today with illegally possessing firearms.
Jimmy Duane Davis, 55, of Sunrise Beach, was charged in a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Jefferson City, Mo. Davis is the owner of the Eclipse Gentleman’s Club.
An affidavit filed in support of today’s federal criminal complaint alleges that Davis kept numerous firearms in a gun safe in the basement of his residence, which is located next to the business. Federal agents executed a search warrant at Davis’ residence on Aug. 19, 2010, and seized the contents of his gun safe, which contained 17 rifles, seven shotguns and six handguns. Agents also seized a handgun that was on top of the gun safe, as well as ammunition that was found in the basement and an upstairs bedroom.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Davis has prior felony convictions for the sale of marijuana, the sale of methamphetamine and trafficking in methamphetamine.
Phillips cautioned that the charge contained in this complaint is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and IRS-Criminal Investigation.
