VERSAILLES MAN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARMS
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced today that a Versailles, Mo., man has been sentenced in federal court for illegally possessing firearms.
Robert Lee Eldridge, 27, of Versailles, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, to eight years in federal prison without parole.
On Feb. 5, 2009, Eldridge pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms. Eldridge admitted that he was in possession of 18 rifles, shotguns and handguns. Law enforcement officers discovered the firearms in Eldridge’s residence after responding to a call about a disturbance on April 2, 2008.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Eldridge has a prior felony conviction for burglary.
This case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Kummerer.
It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force and the Morgan County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department.
