TWO KC MEN INDICTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY
OF LOCAL BUSINESS
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that two Kansas City, Mo., men were indicted by a federal grand jury today for the armed robbery of a local clothing store.
Danzel A. Reese, 18, and Terrell E. Lewis, 22, both of Kansas City, were charged in a two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City.
Today’s indictment alleges that Reese and Lewis robbed the Still Goods Designs Store, 1015 E. 55th St., Kansas City, on Aug. 19, 2010. Reese and Lewis are also charged with using a firearm during a crime of violence.
Reese and Lewis were arrested by Kansas City police officers shortly after the robbery occurred. As police officers responded to the scene, they saw a Chevrolet Impala traveling east on 55th Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which took off at a high rate of speed as the officers pursued. The vehicle eventually stopped and the occupants fled, leading officers on a foot chase. Reese was seen running between some houses and was pursued and taken into custody. In the area near his arrest, police officers found a Colton .45-caliber pistol as well as another handgun that had been taken from the store owner during the robbery. Lewis was arrested near the 54th block of Paseo after being bitten by a dog with the K-9 unit.
Phillips cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Michael Green. It was investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
