SMITHFIELD MAN RECEIVES 122 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR BANK ROBBERY
RALEIGH - United States Attorney George E. B. Holding announced that in federal court on January 8, 2008, United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle sentenced JON RHODES, 29, of Smithfield, North Carolina, sentenced to 122 months’ imprisonment and imposed restitution of $2,910.00.
A Criminal Indictment was filed by the United States Attorney’s Office on January 3, 2007. On July 9, 2007, RHODES pled guilty to the charge of bank robbery.
On September 26, 2006, RHODES entered Branch Bank and Trust, located in Dunn, North Carolina, handed the teller a note demanding money. The note stated that RHODES had a weapon. The teller complied with the demand note and RHODES fled the area with approximately $2,910.00.
Investigation of the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Dunn Police Department, and the Lumberton Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Felice McConnell Corpening was prosecution for the government.
