FOURTH ANNUAL TERRORISM FINANCING CONFERENCE
United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, George E.B. Holding welcomed over two hundred bankers and federal, state and local law enforcement to the Fourth Annual Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering Conference, held at the SAS Campus in Cary, North Carolina.
The conference sponsored by the Department of Justice, Bank of America, RBC-Centura and the SAS Institute, was conceived in the wake of the world trade center attacks and seeks to bring together leaders in the public and private sector to discuss how to effectively deal with the growing problem of terrorism financing and money laundering.
Joining United States Attorney Holding was Dr. Jim Goodnight, CEO of SAS and Scott Custer, CEO of Raleigh based RBC-Centura. The conference keynote address was delivered by MSNBC and Fox News Terrorism Expert, Steven Emerson Director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. Mr. Emerson has testified before Congress numerous times on terrorism financing and material support in the United States.
Capitalizing on North Carolina’s growing prominence in the banking industry, the conference has been recognized as the premier terrorism financing and money laundering conference in the nation. Others speakers included leaders from the Department of Treasury, Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internal Revenue Service, Bank of America and SAS.
United States Attorney Holding declared the conference an “overwhelming success” and a “key component of our national terrorism financing strategy.”
