MOTHER PLEADS GUILTY TO SECOND DEGREE MURDER
IN THE STABBING OF HER DAUGHTER
GREENVILLE - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today LINDA HOUGH SHANNON, 51, pled guilty before United States Magistrate David W. Daniel to Second Degree Murder, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1111.
A Criminal Complaint was filed on February 25, 2010 and a Criminal Information was filed on July 7, 2010.
The investigation revealed that on February 22, 2010, SHANNON was living on the Fort Bragg Military Reservation with her daughter, the victim in this case. The victim was a 32-year-old United States Army Soldier assigned to the 583rd Combat Support Company, part of the 18th Fires Brigade on Fort Bragg.
SHANNON and the victim became involved in a verbal argument. After the verbal argument SHANNON attacked the victim with a large kitchen knife. SHANNON inflicted over 150 stab and cutting wounds to the victim that resulted in the victim’s death.
At sentencing, scheduled for December, 2010, SHANNON faces up to life imprisonment followed by up to five years supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Army Criminal Investigative Division. Special Assistant United States Attorney (Captain) Alexander R. Schneider represented the government.
