kittrell man sentenced in federal court

WILMINGTON - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox sentenced JAMIE M. HARGROVE, 35, to 210 months imprisonment followed by a term of supervised release.
On September 20, 2011, a Federal Grand Jury returned a Superseding Criminal Indictment. On March 13, 2012, HARGROVE pled guilty to knowingly selling a gun and ammunition to a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(d)(1) and 924, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924.
According to the investigation, from January, 2011, until May, 2011, HARGROVE, sold, or tried to sell, firearms to a buyer whom HARGROVE knew or had reason to believe that the buyer could not legally possess a firearm. HARGROVE’s charges involved multiple firearms including an 870 Remington shotgun and ammunition, and a Highpoint 9mm handgun and ammunition. At least one of the firearms sold was stolen.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
