rocky mount, north carolina, drug dealer received federal sentence

RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today Chief United State District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced KENDWALL KENDELL BARNES, also known as “Showboat,” 36, to 216 months’ imprisonment followed by 10 years’ supervised release.

On September 20, 2011, a Criminal Indictment was returned charging BARNES with conspiracy to distribute and posses with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and distribution of crack cocaine.

On January 9, 2012, he pled guilty to the charge of conspiracy to distribute and posses with the intent to distribute crack cocaine.

According to the investigation, BARNES is a narcotics distributer who has been selling crack cocaine in Nash County, North Carolina since 1997. In February 2010, officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department utilized confidential informants to purchase more than 100 grams of crack cocaine from 2 mid-level crack cocaine distributors in Rocky Mount, NC. As a result, law enforcement identified BARNES as the source of supply for those mid-level distributors. Further investigation revealed that BARNES had distributed more than 17 kilograms of crack of cocaine throughout Nash County, NC, dating back to 1997.

The investigation was conducted by the Rocky Mount Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Special Assistant United States Attorney Nathan Huff represented the United States in the case. Mr. Huff is an assistant district attorney in the Seventh Prosecutorial District, comprised of Nash, Wilson, and Edgecombe Counties. District Attorney Robert A. Evans has assigned him to the United States Attorney’s Office to prosecute federally the District’s most serious drug and organized crime cases. This has been made possible by a grant funded by the Governor’s Crime Commission.
