former baseball star sentenced for drug trafficking

NEW BERN - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today, United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced BRIEN M. TAYLOR, 40, of Beaufort, North Carolina to 38 months imprisonment followed by 3 years supervised release. 

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on June 5, 2012.  On August 16, 2012, TAYLOR pled guilty to Distribution of 28 Grams or More of Cocaine Base (Crack), in violation of Title 21 United States Code, Section 841.

According to the evidence presented in Court, on October 26, 2011, TAYLOR sold approximately 39.6 grams of cocaine base to law enforcement of the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.  This offense was the third in a series of controlled buys conducted wherein TAYLOR sold cocaine base to law enforcement.  All told, TAYLOR was responsible for distributing at least approximately 208 grams of cocaine base and approximately 100 grams of powder cocaine.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office and the Morehead City Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney Rudy E. Renfer prosecuted the case for the government.
