FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2012

WILMINGTON - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today, Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox sentenced ANDRE LAMANS MELCHOR, 27, to 180 months imprisonment followed by 5 years of supervised release for the unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).

According to the January 4, 2012, Superseding Criminal Indictment, MELCHOR was found in the possession of a Revelation 12-gauge shotgun on October 29, 2010.  At that time, MELCHOR was currently serving a state sentence for an unrelated offense.  On May 15, 2012, MELCHOR pled guilty to the charges.

MELCHOR’S previous felony convictions include numerous breaking and entering charges.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
