felon sentenced for illegal firearm possession

NEW BERN - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today GLENN CLARK, 48, of Maxton, North Carolina, was sentenced by United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan to 120 months imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924, followed by three years of supervised release, a $2,500 fine and a $100 special assessment.

On February 16, 2012, CLARK pled guilty to unlawful possession of firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924.  According to the indictment returned on November 8, 2011, CLARK was found in possession of a Harrington and Richardson, Versa Pack, single shot, .22 caliber rifle on June 3, 2011.  

At sentencing on October 24, 2012, the court found the defendant to be in possession of a firearm in connection with the commission of another offense, that is a drug trafficking offense.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office and the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office.  Assistant United States Attorney Thomas B. Murphy is prosecuting the case.
