
Belcourt Man Pleads Guilty to Assault
BISMARCK - U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on
June 22, 2012, Garrick L. Martin, 30, of Belcourt, N.D., pleaded guilty in U.S. District
Court to a charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
On February 13, 2012, in Belcourt, Martin struck a person in the face with a beer
bottle. The victim had to undergo surgery and lost two teeth because of the assault.
The charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury carries a statutory
maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain
Agency.
Sentencing for Martin has been scheduled for September 21, 2012, in U.S. District
Court in Bismarck, N.D., at 11:30 a.m.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell is prosecuting the case.
