White Shield Man Pleads Guilty to Three Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
BISMARCK - U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on
July 11, 2012, Eric P. Yellow Bird, 35, of White Shield, N.D., pleaded guilty in U.S.
District Court to three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
On August 28, 2011, Yellow Bird assaulted two women by kicking them while
Yellow Bird was wearing shoes. When a third woman tried to intervene, Yellow Bird
struck her in the head with a wooden wall decoration.
Each charge of assault with a dangerous weapon carries a statutory maximum
penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of
Indian Affairs - Fort Berthold Agency, Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department and
Mountrail County Sheriffâ€™s Office.
Sentencing for Yellow Bird has been scheduled for October 12, 2012, in U.S.
District Court in Bismarck, N.D., at 2:00 p.m.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Volk is prosecuting the case.
