Winnebago Man Sentenced for Assault With A Dangerous Weapon

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that Senior United States Judge Lyle E. Strom sentenced Michael A. Blackfish, age 44, of Winnebago, Nebraska, to 51 months imprisonment for his conviction for assault with a dangerous weapon.  Blackfish  was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and will be required to obtain anger management counseling.

On February 2, 2012, Blackfish was at the home of his girlfriend on the Winnebago Indian Reservation when he became upset about not being able to find his phone.  He went into his girlfriend’s bedroom, lifted the mattress and threw her to the ground.  Thereafter, as he was leaving the residence,  Blackfish pulled a phone off the wall and began hitting his girlfriend on her torso and forehead with the phone.  The girlfriend suffered serious bodily injuries as a result of the assault.

The case was investigated by the FBI.
