North Platte Investigation Results in Arrests for Drug Distribution and Gun Charges
United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that on January 24, 2012, Shane Allen Reed, 24, of North Platte was sentenced to 70 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm in March of 2011. Following the term of imprisonment, Reed will be on supervised release for three years.
On March 22, 2011, Shane Reed was found lying in the middle of a North Platte street with a bullet wound in his leg which Reed claimed was the result of a drive-by shooting. Based on the lack of a bullet hole in Reed’s pants and the location, position, and nature of the wound, it was determined that the gun was inside Reed’s pants when it went off. Reed told officers he knew he could not possess a gun due to past felony convictions. In 2008, Reed was convicted of felony theft and burglary charges in Lincoln County District Court.
This case was investigated by the North Platte Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Additional assistance was provided by the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office.
