North Platte Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Distribution of Methamphetamine and Felon in Possession of a Firearm

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that on March 8, 2012,Ted A. Lewis, Sr., 53, of North Platte, was sentenced to two concurrent 10-year prison terms for distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Following the prison terms, Lewis will serve five years on supervised release.

On April 19, 2011, Lewis sold 40.68 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, which was found to be 92% pure, to a confidential informant working with the CODE Task Force in Lexington, Nebraska. On April 20, 2011, Lewis was arrested in Grand Island, Nebraska on outstanding warrants. Lewis’s motel room was searched, and officers found a handgun in his room. Lewis had a prior felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance in Lincoln County, Nebraska.

This case was investigated by the CODE Task Force which is made up of law enforcement agencies in a 22-county area in west-central and southwestern Nebraska. The CODE Task Force includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); North Platte Police Department; Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office; Nebraska State Patrol; Dawson County Sheriff’s Office; Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office; and the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office. Additional assistance was provided by the Grand Island Police Department and the Hall County Attorneys Office.
