Lincoln Man Sentenced for Failure to Register

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 13, 2012

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Troy Smith, Jr., 23 of Lincoln, Nebraska, to 30 months in federal prison followed by 8 years of supervised release for his failure to register as a sex offender.

Troy Smith, Jr. was required to register as a sex offender due to his conviction in March of 2009 for third degree sexual assault of a child and attempted first degree sexual assault of a child.  In early January, 2012, it was discovered that Smith was no longer residing at his previously registered address, with his parents.  Investigation revealed that Smith was living with relatives in Arkansas.  Smith did not register his change of location with the District of Nebraska as required by regulations promulgated by the state of Nebraska and the Sex Offender Notification Registration Act.

This case was investigated by the United States Marshal’s Service and the Lincoln Police Department.
