Macy Man Sentenced For Assault With A Dangerous Weapon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 18, 2012

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that Waylon Blackbird, age 22, of Macy, Nebraska, was sentenced for his conviction of assault with a dangerous weapon.  Chief United States District Court Judge Laurie Smith Camp sentenced Blackbird to 27 months incarceration to be followed by three years of supervised release.

On November 5, 2011, Blackbird was at a party on the Omaha Indian Reservation with his girlfriend when he demanded that she leave with him.  When they got outside, Blackbird began to argue with his girlfriend.  The argument became physical with Blackbird knocking his girlfriend to the ground.  Witnesses observed Blackbird continue to punch and kick the victim while she was on the ground.  As the girlfriend tried to use her legs to keep Blackbird away, Blackbird grabbed one of her legs, pulled out a box cutter and stabbed her in the leg.  The girlfriend was treated at the Carl T. Curtiss Health Center and was released.

This case was investigated by the FBI.
