FLORIDA MAN SENTENCED FOR CONSPIRACY AND
DISTRIBUTION OF OXYCONTIN
CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE: Joathan (Jo-a-than) Chery, of North Miami, Florida, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court for Conspiracy to Distribute and Distribution of Oxycontin, a prescription pain medication.
During a hearing before U. S. District Judge Paul J. Barbadoro, Chery was sentenced to a term of 10 years in prison and 6 years of supervision upon release from custody. During plea proceedings in May, 2009, Chery admitted that during 2007 and 2008 he conspired with others to distribute thousands of Oxycontin pills to individuals in Massachusetts and that during July, 2008, he distributed approximately 500 Oxycontin pills to a Drug Enforcement Administration cooperating witness.
The successful prosecution of this case resulted from the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Tactical Diversion Squad. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Veiga.
