Morris county, n.J., man admits distributing videos of child sexual abuse over the internet

CAMDEN, N.J. – A Morris County, N.J., man today admitted distributing images and videos of child sexual abuse over the Internet, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

William Rensing, 46, of Lincoln Park, N.J., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Simandle in Camden federal court to Count One of an Indictment charging him with distribution of child pornography. Rensing is currently in federal custody.

According to documents filed in the case and statements made in court:

Special agents of the Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at Rensing’s home on July 27, 2011, and seized a notebook computer that contained images and videos of child sexual abuse from the Internet, including those depicting children as young as 6 years old. Rensing admitted in court that on March 25, 2011, he used peer-to-peer file-sharing software to share images and videos of child sexual abuse through the Internet.

Because of his prior conviction for sexual assault of a minor, Rensing faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum potential penalty of 40 years, and a $250,00 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for March 22, 2013.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Andrew M. McLees in Newark, with the investigation leading to today’s plea.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel V. Shapiro of the U.S. Attorney’s Office General Crimes Unit in Newark.
