SCHURZ MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF
19 YEAR-OLD WOMAN

RENO - - A Schurz man was sentenced on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, to 10 years in
federal prison and lifetime supervised release for his guilty plea to Aggravated Sexual Abuse, announced Daniel G. Bogden, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada.

MICHAEL EUGENE DAVIS, age 45, an Indian and member of the Walker River Paiute Tribe in Schurz, Nevada, pleaded guilty on May 4, 2005, to Aggravated Sexual Abuse. He was indicted by the Federal Grand Jury in Reno on March 30, 2005, for the sexual assault which occurred on the evening of March 26, 2005, on the Walker River Indian Reservation. DAVIS struck and punched a 19-year-old female with his hands, removed her clothes, and sexually assaulted her. The victim was also an Indian who resided on the Walker River Reservation.

DAVIS has been in custody since the date of the assault.

The case is being investigated by the Walker River Tribal Police Department, FBI, and
Bureau of Indian Affairs, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sue Fahami.
