Weed and Seed Weed and Seed remains a high priority of the District. Weed and Seed is a community-based, comprehensive, multi-agency approach to combating violent crime, drug use and gang activity in high-crime neighborhoods. The goal is to "weed out" crime from targeted neighborhoods and then to "seed" the targeted sites with a wide range of crime and drug prevention programs and human service agency resources to prevent crime from reoccurring. It is unique in that it is an ongoing strategy requiring collaboration between residents, community leaders and activists, law enforcement, local government, service providers and community and faith-based organizations. There are currently ten officially recognized or funded Weed and Seed sites in this District: Canton, Cleveland Central, Cleveland Detroit Shoreway, Cleveland Mt. Pleasant, Euclid, Lima II, Lima III, Toledo North River, Toledo West and Youngstown North. We are also working with several other sites to develop their Weed and Seed strategies. Some of them may apply for official recognition in 2007. For additional Weed and Seed information, please visit their website at: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ccdo/ws/welcome.html.
