US Attorney
CARTER M. STEWART
President Barack Obama nominated Carter M. Stewart as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio on July 14, 2009. The Senate confirmed Mr. Stewart on September 15, 2009, and he was sworn in on September 30, 2009.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Stewart worked in the Columbus office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, where he focused on the areas of criminal defense, commercial litigation, antitrust, and education law.
Mr. Stewart previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of California (San Jose Division) where he prosecuted a wide range of cases, including money laundering, illegal immigration, narcotics possession, and the unlawful distribution of performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes.
Mr. Stewart also worked in the general litigation group at Bingham McCutchen LLP in San Francisco.
Mr. Stewart clerked for The Honorable Robert L. Carter of the Southern District of New York and The Honorable Raymond L. Finch of the District Of the Virgin lslands.
Mr. Stewart received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, his M.A. in Education Policy from Columbia University, and his B.A from Stanford University.
