Community
The
U.S. Attorney's Office promotes community-based crime and
drug prevention programs throughout the district. The Office
has adopted a number of strategies to combat the threat
of gun violence in our communities, beginning with a commitment
to aggressive enforcement of federal firearm laws. See our
our special law enforcement
initiatives.
In
cooperation with state and local law enforcement, the office
established Project Disarm to vigorously prosecute
firearms offenders in federal court and to work with the
community to heighten awareness of the violence associated
with firearms. Through Project Disarm and the expanded Project Safe Neighborhoods, the office is working
closely with communities around the District to prevent
gun violence.
Through
the leadership of the Law Enforcement Coordination Coordinator, the district has worked with the community
to develop five Weed and Seed sites whose goal is
to prevent, control and reduce violent crime, drug abuse,
and gang activity in targeted high-crime neighborhoods. Weed and Seed sites are located in the Cincinnati
neighborhood of Madisonville, Dayton, Hamilton (which has
two officially recognized communities), and a partnership
between the villages of Lockland and Lincoln Heights.
