Ada Woman Receives Home Detention For Theft From Government

Muskogee, Oklahoma - The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, announced that CAROL WATHAM, age 47, of Ada, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 3 months of probation with 6 months of home detention for Theft from Government, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 641. The defendant was also ordered to pay $12,806.00 in restitution.

Charges arose from an investigation by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General. The defendant was indicted in July, 2012 and pled guilty in August, 2012.

The Indictment alleged that from on or about December 1, 2009, and continuing through July 31, 2011, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant, willfully and knowingly embezzled, stole and converted to her own use, money and things of value from the Social Security Administration, a department or agency of the United States, money that had been paid to the defendant’s daughter, Maygon Watham, to which defendant knew she was not entitled and having a value in excess of $1,000.00.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, presided over today’s hearing.

Assistant United States Attorney Melody Nelson represented the United States.
