Los Angeles, CA, Man Sentenced To 70 Months For Possession With Intent To Distribute Methamphetamine
Muskogee, Oklahoma - The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, announced today that ELBERT BUSTOS-MERCADO, age 39, of Los Angeles, California, was sentenced to 70 months imprisonment, followed by 2 years of supervised release for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A).
The charge arose from an investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The defendant was indicted in November, 2012 and pled guilty in December, 2012.
The Indictment alleged that on or about September 25, 2012, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant did knowingly and intentionally possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, presided over the hearing. The defendant will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending transportation to the designated federal prison at which he will serve his nonparolable sentence.
