Safe Community Coaliton
In 2007, Oklahoma City was selected by the United States Department of Justice Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative to receive a $2.5 million grant to combat gang violence and promote prevention efforts to keep communities and neighborhoods safe. In this effort, the U.S. Attorney works with state, local and community partners to implement strategies that address the following three components:
Prevention – This component focuses on reducing youth-gang crime and violence by addressing the full range of personal, family and community factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency and gang activity.
Enforcement – This component supports enforcement programs that will focus law enforcement efforts on the most significant violent gang offenders.
Prisoner Re-entry – This component focuses on re-entry assistance programs through faith-based and other community organizations that will provide transitional housing, job readiness and placement assistance, and substance abuse and mental health treatment to prisoners re-entering society.
