Portland, Ore. - Jeffrey Alan Carrithers, 60, of Portland, Oregon, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Ancer L. Haggerty to 10 months confinement - five months in prison and five months of home detention. Carrithers was also sentenced to a three-year term of supervised release and must pay $93,714.77 in restitution to the IRS, as well as a $100 fee assessment. Carrithers previously pled guilty on January 12, 2009 to one count of income tax evasion for the year 2000.
Carrithers was charged with willfully attempting to evade paying taxes by using two different social security numbers for employment and income tax purposes; by using bank accounts held in the names of others to conceal his income and assets; by failing to report a substantial amount of Form 1099 income on his 2000 federal income tax return; by concealing his true taxable income from the IRS; and by failing to pay the tax due and owing. The total tax loss was $93,714.47. The investigation of this case was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation.
