July 24, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of a two -count indictment* charging Jeffrey Wright with making and possessing counterfeit currency. This offense arises from the defendant’s manufacturing $980 in counterfeit currency on his home computer.

The maximum authorized prison sentence for making counterfeit federal reserve notes in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 471 is 20 years in prison, $250,000 fine, 3 years supervised release, $100 special assessment.

The maximum authorized prison sentence for uttering counterfeit obligations or securities in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 472 is 30 years. This charge also carries with it a maximum fine of $250,000, a three-year term of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Abington Township Police Department and the United States Secret Service, and has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Joel D. Goldstein.
