
Reading Man Charged with Conversion of Government Funds
Jason Milbrandt, 41, of Reading, PA, was charged today by information with conversion of government funds, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. According to the information, the defendant defrauded the Department of Veterans Affairs by collecting Dependency and Indemnity Compensation after becoming ineligible for such benefits. His conduct resulted in loss to the government of approximately $185,458.
If convicted the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General, and is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Amanda R. Reinitz.
