Tax Charged filed against Philadelphia woman
PHILADELPHIA - Marquita Clark, 40, of Philadelphia, is charged by Indictment, unsealed today, with aiding and assisting the preparation of false tax returns, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger.
According to the indictment, between 2007 and 2009, the defendant prepared tax returns for others and knowingly and willfully filed with the Internal revenue Service (“IRS”) tax returns that contained materially false and fraudulent deductions and expenses, fraudulently inflating the resultant income tax refunds.
If convicted, Clark faces 30 years imprisonment, a fine of $1,000,000, one year of supervised release and a $1000 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the IRS Criminal Investigation Division. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Diviny.
