suspected currency thief arrested and Charged
Alex Price, 25, of Philadelphia, PA, was arrested today and charged by criminal complaint with theft for allegedly stealing $20,000 in uncirculated United States currency from an airplane that was transporting the currency to the United States Federal Reserve in East Rutherford, NJ. Today, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Price, who was a US Airways baggage handler. The agents also recovered the cash.
According to the complaint, Price was working at the airport on October 11, 2012, when the plane arrived from Dallas. The theft of the currency was reported at approximately 2:00 pm that day by a Courier Service when the remaining money arrived at the Federal Reserve facility in East Rutherford, NJ. An initial appearance for Price is scheduled for tomorrow in Magistrate’s Court.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Ignall.
