June 9, 2006 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of an indictment* charging Shawn Davis with one count of possession of cocaine base (“crack”) with the intent to distribute it and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. According to the indictment, on March 28, 2006 the defendant possessed crack cocaine and a loaded firearm.

The total maximum penalty is life in prison with a mandatory minimum 5 years
in prison consecutive to any other sentence imposed, six years to lifetime
supervised release, a $2,250,000 fine, and a $200 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department, the Pennsylvania
Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control,
and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Violent Crime Impact Team,
and is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative by the United States
Attorney’s Office, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, the
Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
and the Philadelphia Police Department to identify and prosecute firearms offenders
in federal court, where the defendant is likely to receive a substantial sentence
upon conviction. The case has been assigned to Special Assistant United States
Attorney Joseph LaBar.
